Seeking therapy takes courage! We consider your values and self-determination a high priority. While we are experts in various therapeutic modalities, you are the expert on yourself. We also value research. According to research, forming a positive therapeutic alliance between a clinician and client is one of the strongest predictors of a successful therapeutic outcome. This involves three components: (a) an agreement on therapeutic goals, (b) an agreement on the methods for accomplishing these goals, and (c) a working relationship of trust. In determining treatment methods, we use a transdisciplinary evidence-based practice approach (Satterfield et al., 2009). This involves a collaborative decision-making process which accounts for (a) your unique characteristics, values, needs, and preferences as a client, (b) the best available research evidence, and (c) the available resources, including the provider's clinical expertise. In other words, you are an active participant in all aspects of your treatment. Our expertise and research are used as they pertain to your values and needs.
