I’ve never talked to anyone. I’m used to handling things on my own.
You are not alone. It takes courage to reach out and ask for help. Everyone needs help now and then. In our work together, we will explore and identify your strengths and how to implement them to reduce the influence of the problems you are facing.
What’s the difference between talking to you or my best friend or family?
A licensed mental health professional has specific training and expertise to help you address your situation or concerns effectively without judgement or bias. Therapy is also confidential. People may be hesitant to share information as honestly and openly with a friend or family member due to fear of becoming a burden or fear of judgment. In short, people tend to receive more empathic support and effective care when working with a trained expert versus a friend or family member.
How does it work? What do I have to do in sessions?
Because each person has different issues and goals for therapy, it will be different depending on the individual. We tailor our therapeutic approach to your specific needs. This is generally clarified in the first intake session.
How long will it take?
Everyone’s circumstances are unique and the length of time counseling can take to allow you to accomplish your goals depends on your desire for personal development, your commitment, and the factors that are driving you to seek counseling in the first place. However, we offer evidence-based therapies that can yield results after one session. The evidence based therapies we use generally range from 1 to 12 sessions. However, this can vary based on each client and their individualized needs.
What can I do to get the most out of therapy?
Your active participation and committment are crucial to your success. This includes, but is not limited to: keeping scheduled appointments, arriving for therapy on time (or 10 minutes early to complete pre-session assessments), completing recommended practice assignments in-between sessions, and providing your therapist with honest feedback to participate in shaping your therapeutic process.
